The 2010 Mackinac Race format has been announced, with the return of the Cove Island Course with the TRADE FIRST buoy and the revival of the Shore Course.  The race will be sailed as follows:

  • Boats rating under PHRF faster than 117 will be sailing on the Cove Island Course under IRC.  This option is also available to boats rating slower than 117.
  • A sportboat class, if registering at least eight boats, will be eligible to sail in their own class on the Cove Island Course under PHRF.
  • Boats rating slower than 117 under PHRF have the option to sail in a racing division on the Shore Course.
  • The Cruising Division will sail the Shore Course, with a minimum PHRF rating of 60.  A "Mega Cruising Class" will be offered for boats rating faster than 60 PHRF if at least eight boats are registered.
  • If at least eight boats register, a Doublehanded class will sail under PHRF on the Shore Course.
  • One Design classes will be offered for classes registering at least eight boats.  These classes must also abide by the 117 cut-off for the Shore Course, unless opting to sail the Cove Island Course.  One Design classes are not required to sail under IRC, but any boat submitting a valid IRC certificate will be scored for Overall placing.
